Community Ministry Report-2024
February: We donated a red suitcase full of personal care products, such as
toothpaste, toothbrushes, trash bags, deodorant, men’s
underwear, feminine hygiene products, socks, combs and brushes to
the First
Universalist Warming Center in Auburn. Soup or Bowl raised money to assist a church member with medical care.
March:
Easter Food baskets were prepared and distributed to 8 families in the
area, they were comprised of a ham dinner with all the fixings.
April: a
Geranium Sale was conducted (geraniums sold for $5 each) with the
support of a Thrivent Action Team Grant. All proceeds from the sale
went into the Food Ministry line for future projects.
May: $600 from the Food Ministry line was donated to
Trinity Soup Kitchen to pay
for a week’s worth of meals for our unhoused neighbors.
June: A storage bin full of arts and crafts supplies was given to the
Root Cellar for
their summer kid’s camp.
August: we delivered two storage bins full of school supplies to the YMCA in
support of their
Operation Backpack Program. We additionally put together 3 backpacks for a refugee family in the area.
September: With the support of a Thrivent Action Team Grant, we hosted a
German Dinner. The $1000 raise was donated to
Kaydenz Kitchen for meals at the new warming center in Lewiston. Also, a $100 donation went to the Cherie Sargent Scholarship Foundation.
October: Supported by a Thrivent Team Action Grant, we participated in the
Feed
Northeast Challenge. Because we collected 500 nonperishable items, we were able to secure a $500 donation from Thrivent that was given to the Oxford SDA Food Pantry. The non-perishable items collected were distributed to three other food pantries in our area.
November: 8
Thanksgiving Baskets were distributed to families in need. The
baskets were comprised of a turkey dinner with fixings.
December: we distributed 8
ham Christmas meal dinners with all the fixings. Additionally,
our giving tree supplied $300 worth of Goodwill gift cards to purchase winter boots for children that attend the
Tree Street Youth Center. Additionally, $2000 each was given to Wisdom Women’s Center and Tree Street Youth Center. These funds were raised at the spring Yard Sale.
